PML-N clinches NA-123, PP-82

LAHORE : Malik Pervez of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz defeated his rivals with a heavy margin and clinched national assembly seat of NA-123 in the bye-polls held here Wednesday, Aaj News reported on Wednesday.

Unofficial vote count at all 268 polling stations set up in the constituency shows Pervez in a clear lead with 45993 votes against his rival Hamid Miraj of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf who stood second with 9440 votes.

Pakistan Muslim League-N won Wednesday’s by-elections in NA-123 Lahore and PP-82 Jhang while PML-Zia and Pakistan People’s Party clinched PP-284 Bahawalnagar and PP-25 Jafarabad, according to unofficial results received so far from the majority of the polling stations.

The total number of registered voters were figured 287,915, out of which 161,102 were males and 126,813 females in NA-123 constituency.

Fifty eight candidates were in run of by-polls.

The polling in the by-elections for NA-123, Lahore, PP-82 Jhang and PP-284 Bahawalnagar was held peacefully in free, fair and transparent manner, told by Provincial EC. while talking to APP.

The Provincial Election Commissioner Akhtar Hussain Sabir said that even a single complaint was not received from any part of these constituencies. The candidates and their voters exhibited the highest degree of discipline and tolerance during exercising their right to vote.

He said that armed contingents of Pakistan Rangers and Punjab Police were deployed at Lahore and Bahawalnager for ensuring peaceful atmosphere.

He said that at all sensitive polling stations special contingents of law enforcing agencies were deployed in Lahore in addition to lady police and special police.

HE said that Rangers and police patrolled the polling areas with special focus on women polling stations.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has alleged rigging in the by-polls for NA-123 held here Wednesday.

Addressing the party workers at central election office at Singhpura chowk, Mian Hamid Meraj candidate for NA-123 and PTI Lahore Mian Mahmood Rashid said that PML-N won the by-election through the use of government machinery.

Lauding the PTI workers, both the leaders said that March 10 elections have sown the seeds of change and no body can stop it.

They said PTI candidate has gained second position in the elections owing to the hard work of the party workers who worked day and night. They said that PTI would sweep the coming local bodies elections.

They said that the PTI has made its mark in the provincial metropolis in the election and the carvan of change would change the direction of the tide.

They alleged that their party workers were harassed by the administration at various polling stations.
